New 2023 Lecturers Honoured

Lecturer in qualitative research.

Could you briefly describe your background, your research topics and your conception of university teaching?

After studies in psychological sciences at UCLouvain, a doctorate at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, a post-doctoral stay at Université de Montréal and a position as Senior Lecturer at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, I joined the academic staff of the Faculty of Psychology, Logopedics and Educational Sciences at ULiège in September 2023.

My research aims to document the use and contribution of qualitative (and mixed) methods in psychology and intervention research projects in the health field. I study how we can produce knowledge from data and information collected in a natural environment, taking into account people's expertise on their experiences, and using a participatory and multidisciplinary approach with the aim of transforming the situation-problem under study. Within this framework, I have carried out several studies on educational interventions in care (therapeutic patient education, psycho-education, peer-help...) in order to document how to evaluate the change processes targeted and the learning to take care of oneself. In particular, I have worked with adolescents living with chronic health conditions to understand their experience of transition from pediatrics to adult care, and to co-construct care arrangements that promote narrative identity development and self-determination in health.

My teaching aims to train students in the science and art of qualitative research, considering both the theoretical underpinnings of qualitative methods and the know-how required in the field to conduct research. I seek to encourage metacognition as much as possible. I also emphasize the diversity of qualitative methods, their complementarity with quantitative approaches, the need to articulate creativity and rigor to produce new knowledge, as well as the contemporary ethical challenges of research: open science, participatory science, inclusion of vulnerable people, the fight against epistemic injustices, etc.
