Lecturer in Clinical Child Psychology.

Could you briefly describe your background, your research topics and your conception of university teaching?

I studied psychological sciences at the University of Liege and obtained an assistant position. I then wrote my doctoral thesis on"Parental factors, gender stereotypes and emotional intelligence in the development of anxiety sensitivity in children".

My research interests focus on increasing knowledge of children's emotional functioning, particularly anxiety symptomatology, its risk and protective factors, and the impact of parental factors. I am also interested in the influence of psychological processes (anxiety, coping strategies, dysfunctional beliefs, quality of life) in pediatric physical health (pain, physical activity, etc.). More recently, I have taken up the use of virtual reality and its application to children and their health, a field of study that has yet to be fully explored. My research is testing the effectiveness of this tool in the field of humanizing pediatric care, and considering its usefulness in learning emotional self-regulation techniques. These different areas of research are rooted in a clinical perspective and aim to improve the assessment, screening, prevention and management of children's mental and physical health.

My teaching approach is based on Evidence Based Practice . It prepares students for the year of supervised practice, training them in the four activities of the clinical psychologist (prevention, screening, diagnosis, intervention). My teaching methods are designed to develop evidence-based theoretical knowledge in clinical child psychology, encourage the transfer of learning from the classroom to the care setting, and foster motivation and active involvement in learning.

Alongside my academic activities, I work as a clinical psychologist. For me, this clinical practice guides both my teaching and my research. It gives me a better vision of the needs of the profession, and consequently of training and research needs in the specific field of child psychology.
