The Department of Speech Therapy is a teaching department within the Faculty of Psychology, Speech Therapy, and Education Sciences. It organizes the Master's degree in Speech Therapy, which offers three options in thesecond Master's degree: one in "Voice," a second in "Disability and Inclusion," and a third in "Neuropsychology of Language and Verbal Learning Disorders." The teaching team is made up of professors and scientists, most of whom hold a doctorate in speech therapy, as well as assistants and clinicians, enabling the department to offer an excellent education that is both theoretical and scientific, yet grounded in real-world practice.

The courses offered in the Department cover many facets of speech therapy (voice, deafness, learning disorders, disability, stuttering, language development disorders, aphasia, bilingualism) and address a wide range of audiences, from early childhood to adulthood. The content is supported by fundamental and applied research using different methodologies (case studies, randomized controlled trials, longitudinal studies, action research) and various tools (MRI, virtual reality, voice dosimetry, voice analysis software, etc.).

The speech therapy program supports students in their clinical practice training from the bachelor's level onwards. Particular attention is paid to the development of their clinical reasoning through several innovative teaching methods: active observation internships at the ULiège Psychological and Speech Therapy Clinic, problem-based learning, role-playing and simulations, work based on clinical vignettes, internship support seminars, etc. In addition, we pay particular attention to the quality and supervision of the 600 hours of compulsory Master's internships.

The Department is also heavily involved in community services such as patient follow-up in CPLU clinical consultations, participation in professional or patient associations (e.g., members of scientific committees), and the organization of conferences, symposiums, seminars, and continuing education courses. It is also involved with the FNRS, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the INAMI, and the ONE, and collaborates with other Belgian and foreign universities (e.g., development cooperation in Vietnam). It is involved in co-organizing the professional bachelor's degree in speech therapy (Haute Ecole Robert Schuman).
