Department of Educational Sciences
T
he Department of Educational Sciences is part of the Faculty of Psychology, Logopedics and Educational Sciences. It organizes the Master's degree in Educational Sciences, which offers two specialized majors, one in Teaching, the other in Adult Education. Teachers also teach in the bachelor's degree program in psychology (general or logopedic orientation) and educational science, as well as in the agrégation (AESS) and CAPAES programs. Teachers are also active in other faculties (Law and Political Science, Medicine, Social Science, etc.), offering content related to educational science.
The teaching offered in the department covers many facets of education and training, both formal and non-formal, and deals with a range of audiences from early childhood to adulthood. The content is underpinned by research, both fundamental and applied, using a variety of methodologies and devices: from collaborative action research in a crèche or school to large-scale surveys involving statistical modelling.
The department is also heavily involved in community services such as training courses and pedagogical and organizational consultancy for groups of schools, associations, companies and adult education organizations. It is also involved with the Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles in commissions linked to educational policies (Steering Commission, Commission des référentiels, Commission de l'évaluation, Comité Scientifique du Pacte).
