Department of Educational Sciences
T
The Department of Education Sciences is a teaching department within the Faculty of Psychology, Speech Therapy, and Education Sciences. It organizes the Master's degree in Education Sciences, which is currently undergoing a reform that began in 2025-2026. The new program is structured around three career paths—teaching, training, educating; accompanying, supporting, advising; conceptualizing, researching, disseminating—while maintaining the old program during a transitional phase to allow students already enrolled to complete their training under the conditions initially planned. The department's professors also teach in the bachelor's degree programs in psychology (general or speech therapy) and education sciences, as well as in the agrégation (AESS) and CAPAES programs. The teachers are also active in other faculties (law and political science, medicine, social sciences, etc.) offering content related to education sciences.
The courses offered in the department cover many facets of education and training, both formal and informal, and are aimed at a wide range of audiences, from early childhood to adulthood. They are based on fundamental and applied research using a variety of methodologies and approaches, ranging from collaborative and action research conducted in nurseries or schools to large-scale surveys based on quantitative analysis and statistical modeling.
The department is also heavily involved in community services, particularly through training and educational and organizational consulting for school groups, associations, companies, and adult education organizations. It also contributes to the educational policies of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation by participating in various scientific commissions and bodies (Steering Committee, Reference Committee, Evaluation Committee, Scientific Committee of the Pact).
